Protests Erupt Over Planned Concrete Plant in Lefke
The Lefke Environmental and Ecology Association has announced that the proposed construction of a concrete plant in Çamlıköy has sparked strong opposition from the local community. The association warned that protests would continue until the project is halted if approval is granted.
In a statement, the association highlighted the threat posed to Lefke, a district renowned for its natural beauty. "Residents of Çamlıköy have begun raising their voices by collecting signatures," the statement read, emphasizing the community’s resolve.
The association also underscored the potential for irreversible harm to public health, the environment, and nature, warning that the region already suffers from unresolved environmental issues. "We do not want to face another problem," the statement added.
The association, along with local residents, has called on the municipality and government to deny the necessary permits for the plant. "If permissions are granted, protests will persist until the project is stopped," the statement concluded.
