Tatar: "I Warned Simon Aykut Not to Cross South, He Knew, and Was Arrested"
President Ersin Tatar stated that property lawsuits initiated by the Greek Cypriot Administration are designed to harm the economy of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Speaking on Genç TV, Tatar described the lawsuits as an economic blow to the TRNC. “I believe we will resolve this issue. We will handle it,” he emphasized.
Referring to Simon Aykut’s arrest after crossing to the south, Tatar said, “The Greek Cypriots had been preparing for years to arrest him. He was aware of this. We met, and I warned him not to cross to the south. I advised him to apply to the Immovable Property Commission (IPC). Yet, he went and was arrested. Those in similar situations should avoid crossing to the south.”
Tatar also mentioned that unnamed high-ranking Greek Cypriot officials had expressed concerns over the lawsuits, indicating that they have led to an increase in Turkish investments in the north, which could cause further political issues.
