Baybars: Prosecutor's Office Should Not Be Reduced to a Beggar
Independent MP Ayşegül Baybars criticized the lack of resources allocated to the Prosecutor's Office, stating that its requests for even basic supplies, such as books and stationery, have remained unmet over the years.
Speaking during the parliamentary debate on the budget of the Attorney General’s Office, Baybars emphasized that the office’s workload must be alleviated and called for adequate funding to ensure its effective functioning.
“The Prosecutor's Office should not be reduced to a beggar. The Ministry of Finance and the government must fulfill their responsibilities,” Baybars asserted.
She urged the government to refrain from overburdening the already busy Prosecutor's Office with unnecessary tasks, highlighting that referring every matter to the office has become a habit.
Baybars also criticized the government for seeking the opinion of the Attorney General during the Parliament Speaker election process, stating, “The government must act responsibly. The Prosecutor's Office, known for its independence and impartiality, should not be politicized.”
Following Baybars' remarks, the budget was unanimously approved.
