During a press conference, Turkish Cypriot Pharmacists’ Association President Umut Öksüz announced the decision to step down, reflecting on their tenure since taking office on September 2, 2023.

"Focused on Professional Honor and Advocacy"

Öksüz highlighted the challenges faced during their term, including the social insurance crisis. "From the very first day, we encountered significant difficulties. Despite these challenges, we remained committed to a solution-oriented approach," he stated.

"No Room for Politics in Health"

Addressing the influence of politics in healthcare, Öksüz remarked, "We refrained from engaging in politics in health matters. At times, we questioned whether we should have. Unfortunately, vital sectors in this country are governed by political agendas. We firmly believe there is no place for politics in healthcare."

"Unprecedented Struggles for Professional Rights"

Öksüz emphasized their relentless efforts to protect professional rights, recalling a five-hour protest under heavy rain in front of the Parliament. "Despite our efforts, access to medicine has become even more difficult for citizens," he added.

Pandemic Challenges

Reflecting on the pandemic, Öksüz said, "We implemented procedures that were not yet adopted in neighboring countries. The dedication we demonstrated during this period is beyond words."

"A Noble Decision to Step Down"

Concluding his remarks, Öksüz announced, "Today, we have decided to hand over our duties. Despite all challenges, we maintained a principled stance. I extend my gratitude to all my colleagues and the public for their support."
