"Both Investigator and Complainant are Military": Lawyer Highlights Key Detail in Ali Kişmir Case
BASIN-SEN lawyer Cansu Nazlı, speaking after the court session, noted that the police investigation into journalist Ali Kişmir had commenced before the military lodged its formal complaint.
Nazlı explained, "The police had already initiated communication with universities during the summer months to determine whether Kişmir’s article contained criminal elements. We learned today that the written complaint was made only after responses to these inquiries were received in September. Essentially, the police began the investigation without a formal complaint and only initiated the official inquiry after receiving legal opinions."
She added, "The court will assess the legal implications of this development."
The case against journalist Ali Kişmir, who faces up to 10 years in prison for allegedly defaming the Security Forces Command, continues to raise questions about the legal process.
