YDP SG Yılmaz Responds to DP: "We Call on Our Partners to Exercise Prudence"
Erşah Sabit Yılmaz, the Secretary General of the Rebirth Party (YDP), responded to the Democratic Party (DP), calling for a more balanced approach and urging their coalition partners to "exercise prudence."
In a written statement, Yılmaz addressed the DP's criticisms following the YDP’s Central Executive Board meeting. The DP had criticized the YDP for "attacking" them, and Yılmaz pointed out that the evaluations from the YDP meeting, which were shared with the press, highlighted the government’s largest partner's disregard for the sensitivities of the smaller coalition parties. The statement stressed that this lack of consideration had led to the negative impacts on the smaller partners, as had happened in the past.
The statement further referred to the situation within the DP, pointing out that one of its three members of parliament, Hasan Tosunoğlu, had resigned from the party for similar reasons. The YDP Central Executive Board had emphasized this point in their discussions.
The statement noted that the DP leadership had attacked the YDP with language "exceeding the limits of decency." Yılmaz added, “We wish the DP officials who wrote this statement had also responded to the remarks made by Mr. Hasan Tosunoğlu when he resigned. As a party, we maintain our composure and call on our partners to exercise prudence.”
The DP had previously expressed their disappointment, astonishment, and regret regarding the criticisms from the YDP in their statement about the December 23 meeting, and emphasized that despite internal challenges, they would continue to support the government. The DP also accused certain groups within the YDP of attempting to create chaos and division, actions that they claimed were contrary to both the party’s mission and the realities of the country.
