PM Üstel to Unions: "We Will Not Back Down"
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has firmly stated the government's stance amid the unions' ongoing protest. Reports suggest Üstel told his close circle, "No concessions—union leaders should be removed," signaling a determined approach with the message, "We will not back down."
Union leaders, who had gathered at the Parliament's Blue Hall for a meeting with government representatives, criticized the administration for failing to attend. KTAMS President Güven Bengihan expressed frustration, stating, "We have been waiting here for 45 minutes. This is complete disrespect."
In response, union leaders declared, "There is no one to talk to, so we are not leaving," as they protested the government's absence and its approach to negotiations.
Criticism Over Strikes and Legislative Moves
Bengihan also voiced concerns about reports of potential strike bans, saying, "We’ve heard they plan to impose strike bans at ports and in Parliament," accusing the government of taking steps to undermine union actions.
