Annual Inflation sets 53.29% in 2024
The Statistics Department announced the cost-of-living increase for December at 1.10%, bringing the total inflation rate for 2024 to 53.29%.
According to the department’s "2015=100 Base Year Consumer Price Index Results for December 2024," monthly inflation stood at 1.10%, while the annual change from December 2023 was recorded at 53.29%.
Zucchini Tops Price Increases, Parsley Sees Biggest Drop
The products with the highest price increases in December were zucchini, up by 171.22%, artichoke at 154.38%, and eggplant at 107.87%. Meanwhile, parsley saw the steepest price drop at 36.42%, followed by cauliflower at 35.94% and broccoli at 35.81%.
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages See Highest Monthly Rise
Among major spending categories, the highest monthly increase was observed in food and non-alcoholic beverages, rising by 2.49%. Other notable increases included various goods and services (2.23%), clothing and footwear (2.03%), restaurants and hotels (1.42%), and furniture, household appliances, and maintenance services (1.08%).
Price changes in other main groups were as follows:
- Health: +1.08%
- Communication: +0.99%
- Recreation and Culture: +0.58%
- Transport: +0.43%
- Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels: +0.32%
- Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco: +0.18%
- Education: +0.08%
Out of 430 items covered in the index, average prices increased for 302 items, while prices decreased for 128 items.
