Erhürman: "I See a Structure Preparing to Leave"

Erhürman: "I See a Structure Preparing to Leave"
A- A A+

Speaking on Kanal T, Erhürman stated, “Without elections, nothing will change in this parliament. The motivation is gone.” He argued that discussions about the political system are merely attempts to cover up incompetence and emphasized CTP's goal of forming a single-party government.

"Playing Extra Time"

Erhürman referenced comments by Public Works and Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı and Tourism and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, highlighting the silence of the National Unity Party (UBP) in response. He remarked, “When you put all these together, you can see where the so-called government’s core motivation lies.”

He criticized the government for failing to address pressing issues like purchasing power and the economy, stating, “The country's problems, such as citrus production and industrial growth, are not even on their agenda.” He added that the administration is merely trying to patch up issues with short-term solutions, which could lead to an economic collapse.

On Early Elections

Referring to the possibility of early elections, Erhürman said, “Even they don’t believe in lasting until 2027. Every day under this administration is a day stolen from the people.”

Cyprus Issue: "An International Problem"

Discussing the Cyprus issue, Erhürman emphasized that it is not merely a bi-communal matter but an international one. He noted that UN Secretary-General António Guterres appears intent on initiating a new process, with a multi-party meeting already scheduled, involving Turkey and Greece.

He highlighted the importance of cooperation among Turkey, Greece, Turkish Cypriots, and Greek Cypriots to create opportunities for regional peace. Erhürman said, “If this cooperation succeeds, it could open a window of opportunity for regional stability.”

"This Status Quo Is Unsustainable"

Erhürman reiterated that a solution for Cyprus would likely involve a loose federation, a concept discussed by Turkish Cypriot leaders in various negotiation periods. He pointed out that even AKEL and DISY, historically proponents of a strong central federation, now express openness to the idea of a looser model. “If there’s going to be a solution, this is how it will happen,” he added.

"We Will Govern Together"

Erhürman concluded by stressing CTP's commitment to inclusive governance, both in the presidency and government, saying, “We are sincere in our promise to govern this country together. We will not overlook any part of the country's qualified human resources.”
