Menelaou: “Di Carlo’s Visit to Prepare for March Conference”
UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary Di Carlo is planning to visit Cyprus and the capitals of other countries involved in the Cyprus issue in February. The visit is seen as a critical step in preparation for the informal multilateral conference expected to take place in March.
Speaking on RIK Radio’s Morning Program, Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou stated that Di Carlo’s visit aims to strategize ahead of the conference. “The UN’s goal is to lead us with proper preparation toward a broader meeting and make the objective of reviving the negotiation process feasible,” Menelaou said.
Highlighting that these diplomatic efforts align with Security Council resolutions, Menelaou emphasized that the message of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation as a compromise has been clearly conveyed to the Turkish side. However, he noted that there is no indication of progress toward overcoming current obstacles in the upcoming meeting between President Christodoulides and Ersin Tatar.
