Hür-İş Rejects Proposed 11.12% Cost-of-Living Adjustment for Minimum Wage
Hür-İş Federation President Ahmet Serdaroğlu announced that the union would not accept the proposed 11.12% cost-of-living adjustment for the minimum wage, calling it unrealistic.
Speaking via phone on BRT's 18th Hour program, hosted by Pembe Paşaoğluları, Serdaroğlu refrained from naming a specific figure but stated that the union's stance would be determined after the government's proposal is revealed.
"We Will Not Approve False Data"
Serdaroğlu declared, “Hür-İş will definitely not agree to an 11.12% adjustment. Accepting this figure would mean endorsing an unrealistic inflation rate.”
He criticized the State Statistics Institute, advocating for its independence to ensure accurate inflation data. “The institute must be independent so that the true inflation rate is transparent to everyone. As a society, isn’t this our right? Claiming inflation rates of 0.78% in November and 1.13% in December is entirely unrealistic. It’s like openly saying, ‘We are stealing labor,’” he remarked.
Uncertainty Around Government's Intentions
Serdaroğlu noted that the government’s intentions regarding the minimum wage remain unclear but expressed hope for a swift resolution. “Perhaps they will surprise us. Our only consolation is that they convene the table promptly. Delays won’t solve anything,” he added.
Meanwhile, Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu stated that the Minimum Wage Commission would meet on Thursday or Friday to discuss the issue.
