Dr. Küçük Commemorated on 41st Anniversary of His Death
Dr. Fazıl Küçük, leader of the Turkish Cypriot struggle for existence and freedom, was commemorated on the 41st anniversary of his death with a ceremony at his gravesite in Anıttepe.
The ceremony began with wreaths being laid at the monument, followed by a moment of silence. The national flag was raised to the sound of the Independence March and then lowered to half-mast.
The event was attended by Dr. Küçük's family, as well as President Ersin Tatar, Parliament Speaker Ziya Öztürkler, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Chief Justice Bertan Özerdağ, former President Mehmet Ali Talat, Turkey's Ambassador to Nicosia Yasin Ekrem Serim, Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Major General Sebahattin Kılınç, Commander of the Security Forces Major General İlker Görgülü, Leader of the Opposition Tufan Erhürman, several ministers, lawmakers, political party, institution, and association representatives, mayors, military officials, and students.
The ceremony also saw the participation of Turkey's Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, who was in the TRNC for official visits.
The event concluded with President Tatar signing the Memorial Guestbook, followed by his speech.
