The ruling was read by Judge Tutku Candaş, as part of a panel headed by Chief Justice Füsun Cemaller and Senior Judge Vedia Berkut Barkın at the Nicosia Criminal Court.

Judge Candaş explained that Varan was found guilty based on his confession and the evidence presented during the trial. Candaş emphasized that the crime of "Grievous Bodily Harm" is a serious offense punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Referring to the constitutional protection of bodily integrity, Candaş stressed that no one has the right to violate this fundamental right.

The assault took place in November 2024 on Mecidiye Street in the old city of Nicosia, where Varan punched 52-year-old M.S. three times in the face, after rumors had been spread about him. The victim fell to the ground after the punches, striking his head on the concrete, which led to a skull fracture and brain hemorrhage.

Candaş stated that there was no justification for the assault and, after considering all factors, the court unanimously sentenced Varan to two years in prison.
