DiCarlo's Visit Remains on the Agenda
United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo is expected to visit Cyprus on February 10 to engage in discussions with all parties involved in the Cyprus issue. DiCarlo's visit is part of the preparations for an informal expanded meeting aimed at addressing the Cyprus problem.
During her visit, DiCarlo will meet with high-ranking officials from the guarantor countries, as well as other stakeholders involved in the Cyprus issue. The National Council is scheduled to convene on February 14 to discuss recent developments and the preparations for the multilateral conference.
President Nikos Christodoulides will brief political party leaders on the latest developments and the preparations for the multilateral conference during the National Council meeting. The Greek Cypriot side has reiterated its commitment to resuming negotiations based on the agreed framework.
In addition, Turkish Cypriot President Ersin Tatar's Special Representative Güneş Onar and Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou are expected to meet tomorrow to discuss the possibility of opening new crossing points. Last week's meeting, held in the presence of the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Cyprus Colin Stewart, did not yield any results.
President Nikos Christodoulides also held a meeting with a delegation from the Democratic Rally (DISY) led by its President Annita Demetriou. After the meeting, Demetriou emphasized the importance of supporting the Greek Cypriot position and expressed DISY's readiness to support any positive efforts to resume negotiations.
As the discussions continue, all eyes remain on the potential outcomes of DiCarlo's visit and the subsequent meetings. The upcoming period is seen as a critical juncture for the Cyprus issue, with hopes for constructive dialogue and progress in the peace process.
