Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident: Driver Caught and Arrested
A tragic accident occurred on the Nicosia-Omorfo highway, where a speeding vehicle struck and killed 24-year-old Ahmet Can Kepenek before fleeing the scene. The driver was later caught and taken into custody.
According to the Police Press Office, the incident took place at approximately 00:40 on February 9, 2025. 22-year-old Tahsin Yamaner, driving a YM 003-plated vehicle, was reportedly speeding and driving recklessly westward when he struck Ahmet Can Kepenek, who was attempting to cross the road near Onan Ltd in Gönyeli.
Following the impact, Kepenek succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the driver fled. However, police managed to track him down and arrested him in Lefke at around 05:00 the same day.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
