Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Remanded for Three Days

Tahsin Yamaner, the suspect in the fatal hit-and-run accident on the Nicosia-Morphou highway, has been remanded in custody for three days as part of the ongoing investigation.

Yamaner, who was allegedly speeding and driving recklessly, struck 24-year-old pedestrian Ahmet Can Kepenek near Onan Ltd. and fled the scene without providing his identity or address.

Police Sergeant Yusuf Türkkal presented the case details in court, stating that the accident occurred on February 9, 2025, at around 00:40. The suspect, driving an unidentified vehicle, hit Kepenek while he was attempting to cross the dual carriageway from north to south.

Following the accident, Kepenek succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Investigators later identified the suspect’s vehicle as a YM 003-plated jeep, which was found in Lefka. The driver, Tahsin Yamaner, was arrested at around 05:00 the same day under a detention order.

Police have taken a 20cc blood sample from the suspect for analysis and are continuing their investigation, which includes examining CCTV footage and taking witness statements.

Judge Meltem Dündar ruled that the suspect remain in custody for three days to facilitate the investigation.
