Brutal Killing of Cyprus' Iconic Wild Donkeys Sparks Outrage

During a recent field study, Cyprus Wildlife Research Institute teams encountered a horrifying scene: at least 14 wild donkeys, a symbol of Cyprus, had been brutally shot and killed. The donkeys were gunned down at close range, leading experts to believe that this was a deliberate act of cruelty.

Among the slaughtered animals were a pregnant mother and her newborn foal, making the incident even more tragic. Reports indicate that the mother was shot during childbirth, causing both her and her newborn to perish. The brutal massacre has been met with shock, anger, and grief from local residents and animal rights activists.
Following the incident, Taşkent Nature Park released a statement expressing their devastation. “After this horrific event, police have launched an investigation, and the Veterinary Department has been informed. However, as a team, we find it incredibly difficult to put this tragedy into words, and we need time to process our emotions.”
The motive behind the killings remains unknown, but authorities are working to uncover those responsible for this shocking act of violence.
