Suspects Arrested for Drug Offenses to Remain in Custody for 7 More Days

Two suspects, Osama Abussahid and Omar Halami, arrested for drug-related offenses in Nicosia, will remain in custody for an additional seven days. The two were brought before court again yesterday morning following their arrest during an operation in Nicosia, where the court issued a further seven-day detention order.

A police officer relayed the facts in court, stating that on February 18, it was discovered that Osama Abussahid was in possession of and selling illegal drugs.
The police reported that on the same day, they went to Abussahid’s residence in Kermiya, but when the suspects noticed the officers, they refused to open the front door, which was eventually forced open.
Abussahid was found in the corridor, while Halami was located in the living room. Police then conducted a search of the premises under court order. During the search, they found several items believed to be drugs, including 28 grams of suspected drugs in a transparent bag, 28 grams in a juice carton, 60 grams in a blue-painted box, 84 grams in another juice carton, and 2 grams of suspected cannabis mixed with tobacco in a tray.
Additionally, a metal grinder and an electronic scale believed to be used for drug-related activities were seized.
Police also discovered 3,145 Turkish Lira, 300 dollars, 1,120 British pounds, and 800 Turkish Lira in cash, which they believed to have been obtained from drug sales, inside a bag containing Osama Abussahid's identification documents in his bedroom.
Subsequently, a search was conducted at Omar Halami’s residence in the Küçük Kaymaklı area, where 2,000 Turkish Lira was found in his wallet, and 10 grams of suspected cannabis was located on a coffee table. Halami reportedly told police that he had purchased 15 grams of drugs for 300 dollars from Osama Abussahid.
According to police, Abussahid confessed to obtaining the drugs via WhatsApp from a contact in Southern Cyprus and selling them to individuals he was directed to. The police also noted that between February 10 and 18, 2025, Abussahid sold 4 grams of drugs to a wanted individual, earning 3,600 Turkish Lira, part of which was spent.
Police requested an additional seven days in detention for both suspects to allow for the analysis of the seized items and further examination of their phones, as they are wanted for additional offenses.
Judge Nuray Necdet, after considering the evidence, ordered the suspects to remain in custody for a further seven days.
