Aktunç: Tourism is the Locomotive of Our Economy

Serhan Aktunç, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, emphasized the pivotal role of tourism in the economy, referring to it as the “locomotive” of the country’s economy.

Speaking about the participation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) at the ITB Berlin, one of the world’s largest tourism fairs, Aktunç stated that the TRNC was successfully represented despite facing political isolation, budget inequalities, and unfair competition conditions.
He highlighted that the TRNC stood at the top league at the fair, which saw the participation of over 170 countries and attracted more than 100,000 visitors. Aktunç also stressed that the campaigns conducted in collaboration with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism would help elevate the status of the TRNC in both Europe and Turkey.
With the aim of improving the welfare of the people, Aktunç emphasized the importance of working in cooperation with stakeholders in the tourism sector. "Tourism is the locomotive of our economy. By listening to all sectors and adopting an inclusive approach, we can create a tourism industry where our people and small businesses benefit more," he concluded.
