Trial of German Real Estate Agent Postponed to April 2

The trial of the German real estate agent Eva Kounzel, who was arrested in July for allegedly facilitating property sales in Esentepe and Kyrenia, has been postponed to April 2 by the Nicosia Greek Cypriot Criminal Court.

According to reports from Alithia and other newspapers, during yesterday's hearing, the court listened to arguments from both sides. The postponement was granted to allow for the determination of elements related to a "trial within a trial," particularly regarding the legitimacy of the evidence to be used by the prosecution, as well as concerns over the defendant’s arrest conditions and right to legal representation.
Prosecuting attorney Anna Matheiu, representing the Greek Cypriot administration, stated that the evidence intended for use includes the defendant’s mobile phone, external hard drive, tablet, notebook, and other documents. Meanwhile, defense lawyer Sotiris Argirou questioned the legitimacy of the prosecution’s evidence within the framework of the "trial within a trial."
Following the hearing, the presiding judge, Nikolas Georgiadis, ruled that the next session will take place on April 2.
