Excess Pesticide Residues Found in Five Products

Inspections carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources have revealed excessive or unauthorized pesticide residues in both imported and locally produced food products.

Between March 14 and 20, food samples collected by ministry teams were analyzed at the State Laboratory. According to the findings, one imported product and six local products contained pesticide residues above the legal limit or substances not recommended for use.
Out of 19 imported product samples, 18 were found to be safe, while “Ankara pear” from Onbaşı İşletmeleri Ltd. contained excessive pesticide residues. The company opted to return the product to its country of origin.
Among 25 locally sourced samples, 19 were found to be compliant, while five contained pesticide residues above the legal limit, and one was treated with an unauthorized pesticide. The affected products included cucumbers from Ahmet Coşkun (Famagusta), Valencia oranges from Hasan Çakartaş (Morphou) and Mustafa Köseoğlu (Elye), kapya peppers from Rado Guanta (Akatous), and green charleston peppers from Ümran Çil. Harvesting of these products has been suspended until they pass subsequent laboratory tests.
Additionally, red lettuce from Necati Ananaç (Famagusta) was found to contain an unauthorized pesticide and was destroyed.
