Police officer Nevzat Gün presented the case in court, stating that on 10 April 2025 at around 11:30 a.m., members of the Special Operations Unit (CÖŞ) of the Lefkoşa Police Department stopped Ali Yavuzcan on Gazeteci Hasan Tahsin Street in Ortaköy due to suspicious behaviour. During a search, officers found a black Glock-branded 7.65 mm pistol and two live 9 mm rounds in his possession, which were seized as evidence. The suspect was arrested on the spot.

Police said that a search of Yavuzcan’s residence on the same day did not uncover any illegal items. He was initially remanded for three days while ballistic and fingerprint analysis was carried out on the weapon. The investigation confirmed that the firearm had not been used in any known incident.

The police also revealed that Yavuzcan had a prior conviction for a similar offence in 2023 and requested that he remain in custody pending trial.

After reviewing the testimony, Judge Nuray Necdet ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison for 45 days.
